15marAll Day18Introduction to Cake Decorating - 4-day course

Event Details

This course consists of 4 classes and has been created for the eager cake decorator that would like to start a small business or treat her or his family.  During these 4 classes, you will learn how to decorate amazing cakes and cupcakes for birthdays, special events, weddings or just because cake makes you happy.

Participants will learn how to understand recipes and be able to prepare, bake, decorate and present a delicious cake or cupcake. This course is presented to participants of all levels of ability to learn practical skills needed to decorate cakes and cupcakes with confidence. From, plain buttercream icing to fancy fondant, drip cakes and naked cakes. You will also learn how to use a piping bag. These baking sessions will be demonstrations and hands-on.

Minimum numbers apply to run classes, if minimum numbers are not met by the scheduled date the course will be postponed for a week or two.  Please note booking is essential there is limited space available in each session. The course fee is R5600, you can confirm your booking with a 50% deposit.

Please note adult classes are not suitable for infants or children of any age, with the exception of a child age 16+ that not only have a confirmed booking but is also accompanied by an adult with a confirmed booking.

The schedule for this course will be as follow:

Class 1 – More about the finer techniques of cake decorating, utensils, must-haves and easy shortcuts.  Today you will be baking some fabulous cupcakes, flavoured, filled and beautified while you learn more about piping techniques.  You will make use of the usual piping tips and Russian tips. Antoinette’s Cookery School will serve coffee, tea and juice, as well as something for teatime and a light lunch.  The duration of this class will be between 6 – 7 hours. 

Class 2 – Apart from the theoretical side of this class you will have fun in the kitchen decorating your first cake. Chef Antoinette will demonstrate the preparation and baking of the first cake. this will be the Drip Cake, you will learn more about cutting your cake, crumb icing, smoothing the cake and making use of Ganache to create a beautiful drip cake.  Chef Antoinette has several tricks and tips she will share with you, how to personalise your cake. You will take your ake home you.  Antoinette’s Cookery School will serve coffee, tea and juice, as well as something for teatime and a light lunch.  The duration of this class will be between 6 – 7 hours.  

Class 3 – This class will start with a theoretical session early morning,  you will move into the kitchen to start creating beautiful fondant cakes.  Chef Antoinette will demonstrate the preparation and baking of this cake,  you will learn more about the use of fondant, creating different decorations for your cake with fondant.  You will make use of the techniques you have mastered in the previous class to prepare your cake for the fondant covering. Antoinette’s Cookery School will serve coffee, tea and juice, as well as something for teatime and a light lunch.  The duration of this class will be between 6 – 7 hours.  

Class 4  – The final class, this class will not only create your showstopper cake but, will be relaxed and fast, as you have by now mastered a lot of techniques.  Chef Antoinette will demonstrate the preparation and baking of the cake, and how to prepare fresh flowers to use as decoration on your beautiful cake.  Antoinette’s Cookery School will serve coffee, tea and juice, as well as something for teatime and a light lunch.  The duration of this class will be between 4-5 hours.   You will go home with your showstopper cake.

What do you have to bring? Nothing, Antoinette’s will have all the necessary tools that you will need for this class, this will also guide you to purchase the tools you really will use for cake decorating.  You will receive an apron to use during the class.
